Context

The problem

A store can have a strong month on revenue and still lose money once the real costs arrive. Cost of goods, shipping, payment fees, advertising, refunds and overheads sat in different places, so merchants exported spreadsheets and estimated their margin, usually too late to act on it.

Approach

How we approached it

We joined the store's order data with its costs and built a separate analytics engine to calculate profit per order, model cohort lifetime value, forecast the coming month and watch for anomalies. The results appear inside the store admin, so the real number is one click away.

Scope

What we built

  • Net profit dashboard

Profit, revenue, margin and orders, broken down by cost of goods, fees, shipping, ad spend and overheads.

  • Per-order profitability

Each order shows its own net profit and margin, so profitable and loss-making orders are easy to find.

  • Cohort LTV analysis

Contribution-margin cohorts over time show which customer groups earn back their acquisition cost.

  • Anomaly alerts

Rules watch margin, refunds and profit and send email, Slack or push alerts when the numbers change.

  • Operating cost tracking

Enter rent, payroll, software and marketing once, set how often they recur, and keep an audit trail of edits.

  • 30-day profit forecast

A statistical projection with confidence bands shows where profit is likely to go next.

Results

Merchants can see what they keep, not only what they sell: which products and customers are profitable, where margin is lost, and what the next month is likely to look like. Alerts catch problems early, and decisions are based on actual profit.

FAQ

Questions about this project

Ask us something else
How is Profitory different from a normal sales dashboard?

Most dashboards stop at revenue. Profitory calculates net profit by subtracting cost of goods, shipping, payment fees, ad spend, operating expenses, and refunds, giving merchants the number they actually keep, right down to a single order.

Can Profitory show profit for individual orders?

Yes. Every order carries its own calculated net profit and margin, so it is easy to see which products and customers are profitable and where margin is being lost.

Does Profitory help me plan ahead?

It includes a 30-day net-profit forecast with confidence bands, plus cohort lifetime-value analysis and anomaly alerts that flag changes in margin, refunds, or profit by email, Slack, or push.
